Coding...

The game is taking shapes: You can move around with the player, enter the battle menu and select an option, everything is displayed smoothly with fine transitions...

Coding...

Now I've created a cursor to move through the map by keypresses. What sucks at the moment is that I've not found yet a way to make it behave like in ordinary programs: after the keypress, have a delay and if the user holds this key after this delay, this will count for repeated keypresses. For now you have to repeat pressing the keys to move the cursor.

Edit: OK, this is fixed now.

Coding...

Yesterday I created the code for displaying the game map (level). Today I coded the map editor and enabled the display of maps that are larger than one screen. The next step will probably be the code that allows the user to move the boundaries of the part of the map that is currently being displayed on screen.

XNA Game Studio

Finally I've been able to install XNA Game Studio on my PC (the required Service Pack from the microsoft.com website didn't work on my students' version of Visual Studio 2005 Professional, but the file I downloaded from the server of our university did). I've already drawn a moving sprite. XNA GS has an easy method of transparency, every purple pixel isn't drawn on the screen. So the main problem I've had with previous solutions has gone. Now I have to learn how to put text on screen and how to evaluate the user inputs.
