Montag, 28. Februar 2005 contains a theory related to the Jungian functions. I've thought a lot about the Jungian functions yesterday: I tend to like this concept. At the same time I have grown to dislike Keirsey's four temperament groups as the Jungian functions shows that personalities of different groups may be more similar to each other than personalities of the same group.

ENTJ's order of Jungian functions is T-N-S-F. This is accurate with me! Intuition and feeling are introverted in an ENTJ. It's true that I keep the results of these functions private.
The other type with the same order of Jungian functions is INTP.

Today I've got two new, interesting books: One is about biomechanics of human joints. Apart from details about every joint in the human body, it contains a solid introduction into biomechanics in general (explaining things like the various ways of how rotations can be described precisely, etc.). The other - actually consisting of two volumes - is the proceedings of the world congress of cybernetics and systems research of 1994. Among others it contains chapters on biological cybernetics, medical cybernetics and cognitive science. Cybernetics is a great field of research where you can apply both knowledge of biology/medicine and compsci/math. Maybe I'll try to get into this area myself (when the time will come).

Another good role model: Carl Friedrich Gauß.

I've released the second special edition of Hugi Magazine. From my official announcement: "'Hugi Special Edition #2: Hugibox volume 1' is a music disk with a selection of 30 tunes from the first 30 issues of Hugi Magazine. For the first time, Panorama (the engine of Hugi, coded by Chris Dragan) is used for a music disk interface. The total playback duration of this music disk is 2 hours." At least I like it so much that I'm now playing it all the time while working on the computer. The tunes had originally been selected for the mag because they suited the atmosphere and did not disturb reading too much. This makes most of them excellent background music for any activities.

Emotional IQ Test at Tickle: 133. "Your test results show that your strongest suit is perception - your ability to pick up on what others are feeling. Because of this, you are unusually good at reading people's verbal and non-verbal cues. You're especially aware of the subtleties of people's actions, and can feel out the vibe of a situation better than many. That gives you and edge many wish they had. People with high perception skills like yours, however, tend to rely on them to the exclusion of others. As a result, they sometimes have underdeveloped abilities in other realms of critical emotional intelligence like managing emotions, empathy, and being expressive.
To truly excel in life and know how to relate to different people, you need to balance out the different kinds of emotional intelligence.

Research indicates that if people who are strong in perception can work to increase their overall emotional IQ score, they can prepare themselves to handle any interpersonal exchange with amazing skill - especially by learning to be empathetic and by being able to express what it is they are feeling or trying to say. "

This clearly refutes the claim that people with a high IQ have a low EQ...

The Memory Test at Tickle was also very interesting: "You remembered 81% of the information in the Memory Test. (...) There are 6 main types of memory, which help us interpret and store different types of information. You scored highest in numeric memory. That kind of memory allows you to remember things like phone numbers, numerical addresses, and dollar amounts. You probably also have a knack for recalling people's birthdays, phone numbers and important dates in history, too."

Maybe this is due to me dealing so much with numbers. I guess I'm also good at remembering words. I've experienced problems memorizing shapes and their locations in a matrix. (BTW, mind that I did the test at 3:00 am after 17 hours of staying awake.)

Finally, retaking the Career Personality Test at Tickle (this time the English site), I scored ENTJ. (I might have had an unusual day the first time I took it...) "That means that based on the standard measure of personality traits, you live outside traditional boundaries and need to think ahead of the curve. When others focus on limitations, you create new possibilities and ideas.

You focus on how to take a project or ideas through to completion and put your concepts into motion. You are a doer and not just a dreamer. You are well grounded in reality and use logic and analytical thinking to create new ideas.

Given your ability to learn quickly, you rapidly ascend the career ladder. You enjoy meeting and working with other intensely creative and ambitious people. With your people skills, you have the ability to become a fearless leader and who expects others to keep up with your head-turning pace.
The reason employers and recruiters might be on the lookout for you is that only about 3-5% of the U.S. population shares the unique characteristics of your personality type. Research shows that businesses succeed when employers create a good balance of personality types in the office. And since only 3-5% of the U.S. population shares your type, that means employers are looking for you."

Just found an interesting page: At you can listen to a young music artist named The Blindfolded Pianist playing the themes from various Super Mario games on the piano. The music sheets are also available for download.

"Ausnahmen bestätigen die Regel." - "Exceptions confirm the rule." I used to consider this a cheeky and silly statement, but now I believe it's right. I distinguish between rules and laws. Rules are general statements which are supposed apply to apply to most, but not all special cases. The special cases in which a rule doesn't apply is called an exception. By contrast, a law applies to all special cases. A special case that is not in accordance with the law is called a counter-example. It is sufficient to come up with one counter-example to disprove the law. In contrast to that, a single exception does not disprove a rule, but rather confirms that it is a rule. After all, if there were no exception to a rule, it wouldn't be a rule - it would be a law. So the English proverb "No rule without an exception" is also right. How can a rule be disproven? It seems that it can only be disproven by showing that the number of special cases in which it doesn't apply is greater than the number of special cases it which it applies.

Another day, another IQ test:

This was the Super IQ Test at Tickle. Quote:

"Claus-Dieter, your Super IQ score is 141.

Your overall intelligence quotient is the result of a scientifically-tested formula based on how many questions you answered correctly. But it's only part of what we learned about you from your answers on the test. We also determined the way you process information.

The way you think about things makes you a Creative Theorist. This means you are a highly intelligent, complex person. You are able to process information of nearly every kind with ease, using both creativity and analysis to make sense of the world. Compared to others you also have a very rich imagination.

How did we determine that your thinking style is that of a Creative Theorist? When we examined your test results further, we analyzed how you scored on 8 dimensions of intelligence: spatial, organizational, abstract reasoning, logical, mechanical, verbal, visual and numerical. The 3 dimensions you scored highest on combine to make you a Creative Theorist. Only 6 out of 1,000 people have this rare combination of abilities."

I liked this test more than the Classical IQ test at the same site because this test doesn't contain these stupid questions related to famous quotations and purely factual knowledge.

The Brain Test at Tickle: "You are Balanced-brained. That means you are able to draw on the strengths of both the right and left hemispheres of your brain, depending upon a given situation.
When you need to explain a complicated process to someone, or plan a detailed vacation, the left hemisphere of your brain, which is responsible for your ability to solve problems logically, might kick in. But if you were critiquing an art opening or coming up with an original way to file papers, the right side of your brain, which is responsible for noticing subtle details in things, might take over.
While many people have clearly dominant left- or right-brained tendencies, you are able to draw on skills from both hemispheres of your brain. This rare combination makes you a very creative and flexible thinker.

The down side to being balanced-brained is that you may sometimes feel paralyzed by indecision when the two hemispheres of your brain are competing to solve a problem in their own unique ways."

The TU students' information page has had the news for me that the report on the maths exercises course is available. As expected, my mark on this course is a straight A. Also, I already know that I've got a C on the maths lecture exam and a B on the Java programming exam. The reports for these exams aren't available yet, though.

Time for another IQ test: One test from a German high intelligence society is based on the "European IQ Test" by Abbie Salny. Got 28/33 right. IMHO this test sucks because of some questions such as question 30: I guess they would like to see the circle placed above the triangle so that there's clock-wise rotation when you look at the lines from top to bottom, but it isn't clear enough as it's just a 3x3 matrix. This question would only make sense if adapted to a 4x4 matrix at least. also contains a career test ("Karrieretest"), which is supposed to find out one's career type. The type categories are the same as in the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). Interestingly, while I score ENTJ on all MBTI tests I've made so far, I score ENFP on this career type test. The questions about the way I interact with co-workers and my excitement for changes may have led to this quite different result. Well, after all I'm not as tough and rude a guy like the MBTI tests suggested.

The description of this type: Quote: "Sie können gut organisieren und Projekte managen.
Translation: "You're good at organizing and managing projects. When others lose the overview about the whole picture, you will help them focus on the essential things and disregard unimportant details. You enjoy work most when you have the opportunity to think creatively and develop new work approaches. You are not afraid of taking calculated risks and regard mistakes or failures as an opportunity for growing. You have a lot of interests and are considered versatile and openminded. You have an inspiring lust for life and are full of creativity. You're looking for opportunities to express your thoughts and feelings. Your personality and your opinions are reflected by anything you do."

The test I took at Tickle today confirms a test I did a while ago:

"You're smartest when it comes to logical/mathematical intelligence.

While others may have dreaded their math and science classes at school, these subjects were probably no sweat for you. In fact you may have even thought they were fun. Your logical/mathematical intelligence makes you the type who can enjoy working with numbers or thinking through difficult questions to arrive at a solution.

Whether you realize it or not, this strength has likely been a help to you throughout your life — not just in the classroom. This is true because for work or recreation, people like you can tend to rely on your logical/mathematical intelligence to look at the world. From noticing patterns of behavior in people to being able to appreciate the visual beauty in a repeated design, your special brand of intelligence can make life both interesting and rewarding."

I've released Hugi #30 - Scene Substance. It's now available at It was a lot of work but also satisfaction to create it. I kind of enjoyed this week in which I worked on Hugi from dusk till dawn (like I used to do in the holidays in my school days).

Donnerstag, 3. Februar 2005

The domain seems to be no longer working as it should. I've checked denic, and it appears that it has a new owner. I have no idea how this happened, but if the scener who used to provide the domain for Hugi (salami of ethos9 and nothing) is no longer in possession of this domain, then we can't use it any longer. Therefore I've now announced at every relevant place that has come in my mind that the official website of Hugi Magazine has "moved" to the "new" URL: As a matter of fact, it had already been hosted at that location before: was just a forwarder. Apart from that, we have two mirror sites located at and As the mirror site accessible under has temporarily been shut down as its maintainer suspected it to generate too much traffic, Hugi Magazine currently has no domain of its own. It might be good to get some more mirror sites, so I've included requests for them in the news items which I've posted to various demoscene sites.

Of course this personal homepage of mine has also been affected: It can no longer be accessed by You have to use instead. I've installed this forwarder today. For the sake of consistency, I've also installed and Of course you can also access the index page directly by its true URL However, please memorize that I might move the site one day (sooner or later I will have to anyway, as it's my student's account at university and I won't remain a university student for ever). Therefore it's safer to use the forwarders.

Apart from that, I can report to you that I've been working hard on Hugi #30 in the past days. It's almost finished: I just have to edit one article, send it to its author and wait for his final touches. Then I'll release the new issue. So stay tuned!

I've taken a couple of tests at My results:

Classical IQ Test: IQ 136, "Wise Philosopher".

Translation: "You're extraordinarily intelligent and have a wide spectrum of abilities. You are equally good at thinking in numbers as in words. You read statistics like you read poetry. In addition to your skills at mathematics and languages you have a talent for discovering patterns. Your brain evaluates various types of information at the same time. And it transforms raw material to great idea. People who assemble various components in such a harmonic way like you develop solutions that will remain for ever. And you also have deep insight into daily life. You see causes, calculate results and make predictions. Your sharp senses think in advance - it is difficult to surprise you."
I was especially pleased about the sentence: "People who assemble various components in such a harmonic way like you develop solutions that will remain for ever."

Brain Teaser ("Der Test für Denksportprofis"): 28 out of 30 questions answered correctly. I'm in the 99th percentile of all the people who have taken this test so far.

Translation: "Further analysis of your test results shows that your ability at logical thinking is 100 percent. This result is an indicator of an extraordinarily strong ability at solving problems by means of logics. Certain situations require precise thinking in order to reach the core through the high number of different aspects. In contrast to most people you have exactly this ability. Most other people are unable to find the logics behind a problem. This is different with you: While others easily lose the overview with complex matters, you keep pace by your logical thinking and find solutions for complex problems."

I haven't only scored 100% on logics but also on other types of tasks, but Tickle displays just the evaluation of one of one's strongest abilities.

What's the right type of profession for you?

Translation: "Many people consider you a visionary who develops uncommon ideas. You are not necessarily creative in an artistic sense but rather due to your ability to develop new approaches and solutions for problems. Maybe your colleagues don't realize and appreciate your entrepreneurial fantasy and your great talents at once. Perhaps they even secretly envy you or consider your ideas too unconventional - swimming against the stream is not the thing for everybody! People sometimes have problems categorizing you. That's why you, more than anybody else, need a job in which you can show off your strengths, stand out from the masses and be brilliant with your ideas."
